DR SBAITSO is an artificial intelligence speech synthesis program released in 1992 by Creative Labs for DOS-based personal computers.

It is more of a heuristic-based chatbot running scripted responses rather than actual learning or intelligence.

Anyway, we can interact with DR SBAITSO. It won't tell a direct answer, but it's quite amusing.

How to Use on Windows 11

We need an emulator. Download DOSBox.
- Pick the Windows — Win32 installer.
- Install DOSBox on your machine.
Once installed, open DOSBox:
Extract DR.SBAITSO.zip to an easy-to-type path. For instance, the root of C drive, D drive, or other drive.

In this example, I use drive D to keep the sbaitso folder.
We mount that D:\sbaitso folder to DOSBox's C drive. Type this in DOSBox terminal and hit Enter:

MOUNT C D:\sbaitso
```
We move to C folder in DOSBox:

Once we're in C drive, when we do dir, we will see all the files.
Run DR SBAITSO by typing:
```
SBAITSO2.EXE
```
On my machine, it said Synthesizer Not installed — it's fine, we can still type our name, but without any sound from the program.
Done. We can interact with DR SBAITSO. Without any sound. WITHOUT SOUND.

Oh, the bloody irony! (You may laugh, sir.)

As DR SBAITSO was bundled by Creative Labs with early Sound Blaster 16/Pro cards. Its whole point was to show off the card's text-to-speech (TTS) capabilities. To produce the speech. WITH SOUND! Oh, well.

It's perhaps because DR SBAITSO depends on specific, low-level architecture components from original Sound Blaster cards that DOSBox doesn't emulate out of the box. A card model mismatch, possibly, or most likely. Because, well, I had done some different configurations, and DR SBAITSO still gave me that warning Synthesizer Not installed.

I suppose you can try to tinker with the DOSBox environment there so it will generate a proper sound from DR SBAITSO. Or perhaps rummaging through DR SBAITSO's .bat, or even the .exe file.

Me? As I've written above, I'd already tried some workarounds. Since it was still silent regardless, I then created Doctor Ossbita.
